GENERAL INFORMATION

In the unique surroundings of the Lofoten Islands we are offering you the opportunity to do an amazing race – Lofoten Triathlon. The race is set every year in week 33. The second official The Arctic Triple – Lofoten Triathlon will take place 17th till 20th of August 2017, in the town of Svolvær.

Friday 18th of August the following triathlon will be offered: Olympic +. It consists of 1000 M swim in the Svolvær harbor, 50 KM bike back and forth to Henningsvær and 12 KM run that goes over the mountain peak of Tjeldbergtinden (367 M above sea level).

Saturday 19th of August the extreme edition of Lofoten Triathlon is on! 4 km of swim in the harbor of Svolvær, 196 km bike ride around Vestvågøy, Gimsøy and a short visit to iconic Henningsvær before you return to Svolvær. To finish it all with a bang – 45 km run that ends with 18 km terrain and two mountains.

Registration opens Sunday 4th of September at 18:00 (local time, Norway).

DO THE WHOLE TRIPLE?

Many are eager to do all three races – to get an official result you have to complete them all in 12 months.

  • GOLD – Lofoten Skimo 4000+, Lofoten Ultra-Trail 100 Miles and Lofoten Triathlon Extreme
  • SILVER – Lofoten Skimo 4000+, Lofoten Ultra-Trail 50 Miles and Lofoten Triathlon Extreme
  • BRONZE – Lofoten Skimo 1000+, Lofoten Ultra-Trail 24KM and Lofoten Triathlon Olympic+

When registration opens on Sunday September 4th 2016, at 18:00, you may book all three races for the golden triple 2017. All other races are individually booked.

All races in The Arctic Triple are fully supported – no external support will be allowed.

The Arctic Triple proudly presents the Guest of Honor for Lofoten Triathlon 2016 – Joe Friel!

Joe Friel is nothing short of a legend within triathlon and we can almost not believe that he wants to be part of the very first official Lofoten Triathlon! Welcome to Norway and the Lofoten islands Joe! The Arctic Triple looks forward to greet both you and your wife Joyce to an amazing week with us.

Joe will take an active part in the program all week. On Thursday Joe will be a key speaker at the Mini Triathlon Conference that is included in the entry fee for the athletes. More details will be given about the program for the conference closer to the event. It’s hard to pick a topic – this man has a lot of knowledge to share!

Joe Friel has trained endurance athletes since 1980. His clients are elite amateur and professional road cyclists, mountain bikers, triathletes, and duathletes. They come from all corners of the globe and include American and foreign national champions, world championship competitors, and an Olympian.

He is the author of ten books on training for endurance athletes including the popular and best-selling Training Bible book series. He holds a masters degree in exercise science, is a USA Triathlon and USA Cycling certified Elite-level coach, and is a founder and past Chairman of the USA Triathlon National Coaching Commission.

Joe conducts seminars around the world on training and racing for cyclists, multisport athletes, and coaches, and provides consulting services for corporations in the fitness industry.

He has also been active in business as a founder of Training Peaks (www.trainingpeaks.com), a web-based software company, and TrainingBible Coaching (www.trainingbible.com).

Joe lives and trains in the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona, overlooking the Valley of the Sun.

Saturday 19th of August 2017

The Arctic Triple – Lofoten Triathlon Extreme consist of 4 km of swim in the harbor of Svolvær, 196 km bike ride around Vestvågøy, Gimsøy and a short visit to the iconic village of Henningsvær before you return to Svolvær. To finish it all with a bang – 45 km run that ends with 20 km of terrain and two mountain passes.

LOFOTEN TRIATHLON – OLYMPIC +

Friday 18th of August 2017

It has already become a tradition that the routes in The Arctic Triple is a bit longer… We want to make sure the triathletes get the most out of Lofoten during their race! The Olympic+ starts with a 1000 M swim in the harbor of Svolvær, then a 50 KM bike tour back and forth to Henningsvær. The whole adventure is completed with a 12 KM run that passes over the mountain peak of Tjeldbergtinden (541 M above sea level) before you finish it all with passing throug our iconic finish line – a traditional fish rack.
